All About Mrs. Leontovich
I am originally from Rochester, Minnesota which is where my parents and my younger brother still live. After graduating from high school, I attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin where I completed my degree in Elementary Education with a double minor in Early Childhood and Spanish. I taught kindergarten for four years in the Dickinson Public School District in North Dakota. This is my third year in Hastings, MN and I'm very excited to be part of Pinecrest Elementary!

Bus and car tags: The school has provided your child with a yellow bus tag or green car tag. This tag helps your child to find his/her bus or car during dismissal time. It is vital that he/she always has it with him/her throughout the entire year; please attach it to his/her backpack. (Please laminate it, contact paper it, or put it in a Ziploc baggie for longevity.)
If you anticipate a change in your child’s afternoon busing, please call the school or send a note with your child. Do NOT rely on email for this purpose. While I am a great e-mailer, I cannot guarantee that I will get it in time.

We do so many fun and creative art projects in kindergarten. We work on fine motor skills as we work on art projects about books we read and letters we learn about.
Gym Shoes Please make sure your child has gym shoes every day for school. Students will be going to gym class every other day, but we will be doing many movement activities at school throughout our learning day.
Flip flops will not be allowed on the playground so your child will need tennis shoes or shoes with backs to play outside.

Each month, your child will be assigned a day to bring in a snack to share with approximately 18 students. Please send a nutritious STORE BOUGHT snack that is easy to eat. For example: string cheese, carrot sticks, crackers, Go-gurt, applesauce with spoons, etc. Let your creativity shine!
Your child will have the choice of white or chocolate milk each day. If your child has any food and/or milk allergies, please let me know.

For many families birthdays are a special time to celebrate. If your child wishes to celebrate their birthday with the class, please feel free to send in a healthy birthday snack and/or trinket. For children, with summer birthdays we will celebrate their half birthday and they too can bring in a snack to share with the class.

We will be going on several field trips this year. Information about these trips will be detailed in the permission slip that will be sent home. If the slip is not returned, the student will not be able to participate.
During our school day, we set aside time for “centers”. This time is very important for kindergarten students. It teaches them how to play, interact, socialize, and work together.
Students will have opportunities to play in our kitchen center, block center, classroom library, writing center, math center, art center, games and puzzle center as well as a few themed centers throughout the year.

We have a treasure box in kindergarten; however, we need your help stocking it. If you have old McDonald’s toys or other small toys that your child no longer plays with, please send them to school with your child. Please label the toys or send a quick note to let me know that you are donating them to the treasure box. The students are able to choose from the treasure box for various reasons throughout the year.
