This week we learned all about scarecrows. We read stories about scarecrows, watched a video about how to make a real scarecrow and we made scarecrow art projects to hang above our lockers.
In math this week we have been learning about patterns. The students had a lot of fun making patterns with blocks on their desks. They are also doing a great job of noticing patterns around them, in the classroom, on the lockers, on their shirts,
This week we learned about apples. We had a taste testing day when we tried eating some green, red, and yellow apples. We graphed our favorites and red apples had the most votes in our classroom followed by green and then yellow apples.
It has been an exciting week in kindergarten! Most of us got to ride a school bus for the first time and what made it even more exciting was that we were going to the fire station! When we got to the station, fire fighters showed us their uniforms, we learned about fire safety and there was a moving, talking mini fire truck. We also got to practice "Stop, Drop, and Roll" with the fire fighters helping us.
We got to see the real fire trucks and the fire fighters turned on the sirens and the lights so that we could hear and see what happens when they are on their way to help people or put out a fire. At the end, a fire fighter slid down the fire pole in the fire station and then they gave us each our own fire hat to take home! It was an exciting day! This week we learned about fall and all of the things we see in fall. We also talked about the different seasons. Today, we made pictures that showed what a tree might look like in each season. The kids also learned that sometimes the snow of winter sometimes takes over Fall and Spring. This is a picture of our playground this afternoon. All week long we looked for words that begin with the letter f and also for words that had the letter f in them. On Tuesday, we made a list of the words we could think of. This week we learned all about the -at word family. We made a chart with all of the words that we could think of and we worked on our rhyming skills. Book-It! Is a program that encourages students to read on a daily basis. Our goal this year as kindergarten students is to read for 20 minutes for at least 5-7 nights a week. Students can keep track of their reading on a printable calendar that goes home at the beginning of each month. At the end of the month, if students have met their goal and return the calendar, they will receive a coupon for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. If you have any questions about the program, please contact Miss Evers or you can visit the official Book-It! website. http://bookitprogram.com/ |
